Designed by Antoni Bonet Castellana, Casa Gomis is a 1950’s gem of rationalist architecture, but is under threat from the expanding Barcelona airport. Ricardo Gomis’s passion for music influenced the conceptualization of the structure. Each line, material, colour décor element and finish was meticulously planned to achieve harmony with the surrounding landscape. It became a refuge for artists and intellectuals during Franco’s dictatorship. A meeting place for the avant-garde, the home hosted artists such as Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Antoni Tàpies, Joan Miró, Roberto Gerhard and many others who took part in the activities organized by the Club 49.
